IT: Welcome To Derry

I really enjoyed this prequel to the most recent movie adaptations. I loved how they expanded the mythos and also were able to make use of a setting closer to that of the early timeline in the book. (Although I also loved that the first of the recent movies was set in the 80s.) I also enjoyed the themes of friendship and the dynamic between the kids. And Bill Skarsgard remains a captivating Pennywise.

Also… that intro sequence was just chef’s kiss! The music! The illustrations! I watched it all the way through during every episode.

IT has always been about the rot, hypocrisy, monstrousness lying beneath the facade of so many seemingly peaceful communities, and although this series touched on racism in that regard, for me it didn’t quite follow through allegorically, which made some scenes a bit uncomfortable for me. I did enjoy the military storyline, even if IMO the direction it went in at the end kind of undermined what I thought they were trying to say.

I’m so glad we’re getting a second season (and that we’re going further back in time, à la FEAR STREET - another of my fave recent horror shows.)

Also… “How much trouble can a hotel be?” lolz!!
