My Books Are Human Authored (not a sentence I ever thought I'd have to write, but here we are...)

It feels incredibly dystopian to be writing this, but I’m just popping up to let you know that I’ve registered my books with the Society of Authors Human Authored programme. As someone who writes fast, who loves em dashes, and who finds the rule of three aesthetically pleasing (see what I did there?!) I want to make it absolutely clear where I stand on generative artificial “intelligence.”
The steal-and-regurgitate programmes currently plundering the arts for the gain of the usual grifters and billionaires are theft, pure and simple. They are trained on the hard work of underpaid artists, and are now drowning out actual human voices with something to say and diluting the field. Let me say that again: the only reason they “work” is because they have stolen from real artists. They are a Frankenstein’s monster of everything that has come before. They can’t “create” anything new. They can only spew out versions of whatever has been fed into them. Meanwhile, the hard work of actual people who have not given permission for their creations to be used and have not been paid for their usage, has been stolen by parasites who only care about money.
And it is about money, make no mistake. It’s not about helping us with the difficult bits of creating (which are always the most satisfying bits once we get through them.) If they gave a sh*t about that or about doing something for the good of humanity they could pay for writing workshops for us so we’d learn to develop our own methods and not be reliant on their bullsh*t software, or maybe they’d put their energy into supporting the creative arts so we could all give up our day jobs. No: it’s about them exploiting anything they can to maximise their profits, while claiming it’ll increase our “productivity” (which at its core is about our value as a person being measured in how fast we can make money for those at the top of the food chain.)
Even if I didn’t care about the theft, art is about human connection and self expression. It’s about sharing your thoughts and feelings, sharing a part of yourself with others.
