Slow Horses Season 5

Phew, Season 5 of SLOW HORSES had a real sting in the tail, after what was largely a more comedic and light-hearted tone. The final shot and all it revealed was doubly impactful (and heartbreaking) because of the denials and banter that went before it. So much conveyed, and all without words. I will never look at the above image the same way again.
This very much felt like the season of the past catching up to the present, both for many of the characters as individuals, and thematically with the wider plot. The past actions of the British government are what spurred on the main antagonists, and characters’ past choices proved pivotal to much of the political manoeuvring. I appreciated the many echoes of the current political climate (making one particular surprise death particularly satisfying!) But for me the highlight of this season was that ending. I hope it’s developed more in Season 6.
The next fantasy series I am hoping to write features a (female) character inspired by Jackson Lamb, and I can’t wait to write her!
